An extraordinary quarter, where lots of the historic buildings were destroyed in the war but have recently been rebuilt, although no necessarily where they were before! Look a bit mad but the area has a great vibe to it. The best bit is the Rotes Rathaus with its twin spikes

Known just as Alex, this square was central to the peaceful revolution of 1989. I really like the atmosphere here, the TV tower nearby, the world clock patiently telling you the time across the globe and the wonderful and graffitied fountain of friendship between peoples, which I could look at for hours especially at night when it's lit up.
