My boyfriend and I relaly enjoyed going here, to the West German's answer to the East's Museuminslel. The architecture is varied from the old of st matthaus kirche to the very new, and we didn't have much time but we did go into the kunstgewerbemuseum (applied arts) where crafts from medieval times until today were fabulous.

Known just as Alex, this square was central to the peaceful revolution of 1989. I really like the atmosphere here, the TV tower nearby, the world clock patiently telling you the time across the globe and the wonderful and graffitied fountain of friendship between peoples, which I could look at for hours especially at night when it's lit up.

My girlfriend and I stumbled across this stunning square late at night and were so taken by it we had to go back the next day for a proper daytime look. The buildings there are just fabulous and the museums in the french and german cathedrals are really interesting.
