No longer a bloody battle scene, today the gate is the best way to enter the city, not its most heavily fortified!!

This is the big entrance to the old town, the only way to arrive if you want to see it properly! Go through and explore the old narrow streets and see what you can find for yourself.

I had a feeling of being very small and insignificant when I was here at the gate and would not have liked to be an attacker trying to get through the walls! Totally majestic.

It's amazing that this magnificent gate has lasted from the Helicarnassus period, especially when you think that the other 7km of the walls have been destroyed over time. Fabulous place.

My man and me went here to see the gate to the old city and it just astonishing to see the size of the fortifications! Just imagining needing that and living in a walled city under siege is mental! Glad I live in a time where invading armies don't just show up one day and start attacking the city gates!! Great place to come and see, and get some perspective on history.
