Dominating Bodrum's harbourside it's a must-see on your trip. Lovely building, interestingly made using many of the stones of the Mausoleum of Helicarnassus, and such a good museum inside too, all about underwater archaeology.

My husband and I love shipwrecks and this is a treasure trove of interesting aftefacts, and all inside an awesome castle. You really get a great sense of history walking round this place and the ancient glass was really cool.

We visited Bodrum a couple of years ago and enjoyed our trip out of town to the amphitheatre. It's an incredible piece of engineering and since 1973 has been an open air museum. We were told that in its day, it had a capacity of 13,000. We were really excited to hear that the amphitheatre was going to be used in the Gumusluk Classical Music Festival. I'm sure that will be an extraordinary spectacle and would urge anyone travelling to Bodrum to look into it.

I'd read that the Pope issued a decree that anyone who helpe on work in the castle would automatically receive a place in heaven! It represented the last christian strong hold in Asia minor in the early 15th century and certainly well fortified. Inside, there is a museum of underwater archaeology and amphora collections. There is also a great view of the bay from the top.
