Piazza Magiore is the heart of Bologna. It is also one of the most beautiful town squares in Italy in my opinion. It house the beautiful gothic Palazzo de Podesta and the absolutely vast Basilica of st Petronius. It also has all the things you'd expect of a Italian town square- great ice cream, chic cafes and great people watching opportunities.

Given how iconic Ducati is in Italy, I couldn't resist visiting this museum on a rainy day. The museum houses displays chronicling the 80 year history of the company. It has many beautiful motorbikes from the 50 years of the company's racing bike production. Entrance to the museum is free.

This is an incredible place to stay. Its a very old castle outside Bologna and makes you feel like you're a tourist in the middle ages. There is a fantastic library of books as well as lots of period furnishings an ornate garden and wonderful meals. Perhaps most importantly, the castle is in the middle of nowhere and wonderfully secluded.

The Two Bologna towers are wierd foreboding structures.Aparently back in the city's golden age there were hundreds of such structures in Bologna. The taller of the two is the Asinelli tower which rises to a height of 97 metres and in the 24th century was a prison. Given the visible slant of the
