School Mosaic

posted by gjolce on 18 May 2011 at 09:58

I'm not quite sure why, but my personal highlight on the freedom trail (a MUST do) was the folk-art mosaic that denoted the place where the first public school in the USA used to stand. Great story, and such a lovely and memorable piece of public art.

Just a small dash off the Freedom trail, it's definitely a must-see if you have kids. The Swan boats are majectic and the ride is peaceful and pretty. They loved the space to run about and I really enjoyed the art that is hidden around the parkland.

Not just a university, when I went to visit friends at Harvard they took me to this museum and I was amazed. An excellent collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings from cezanne, degas, mant, picasso and van gogh surprised me! Totally unexpected and really fabulous.

Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum

Wow. This was a feast for the eyes. The italina-style villa is pretty impresive and then you start looking at the art. Granted it's a little haphazard with a mix of styles everywhere but that's sort of part of the charm, and for a personal collection it's amazing. Really enjoyable since you never know what you might find next!

Harvard University Art Museum

A few years ago when I was visiting Boston, a friend of mine wanted to visit the Harvard University Art Museum, and I decided to tag along. They have a very impressive collection of art which is comprised of three different museums, which comprise the entire facility. The collections span Western countries, German art, and Islamic and Asian pieces.
