I happened to be in Boston for half a day and thought it not quite long enough for the Freedom Trail, but I really enjoyed the Walk To The Sea, from the State House, Beacon Hill to the sea. Amazing to see the span of history in this short distance, really rewarding.

I downloaded a map before I left and followed it from the start at Beacon Hill, which was really easy to get to on public transport

There really is nothing better for getting to know a place than going on a walking tour adn they don't come much more famous than this. Packed full of 16 landmarks detailling the lives and deaths of the revolutionaries that worked their magic there. Get a free map or just follow the red brick road, and the best bit is loads of the attractions are free!

Newbury Street is a must for visitors to Boston. First of all, I should let you know that this comment is coming from a non-shopper. And granted that is one of the major highlights of this destination, but believe me that is not ALL this place has to offer. The people-watching is a must-see with a total melting pot of both locals and domestic and foreign tourists alike. However, there’s also ample food and dessert options, plus a few drinking holes too. To me the icing on the cake was the ebullient park that Newbury Street feeds into. Just a perfect place to unwind and take a load off after putting some good mileage on the feet.
