The Terror Haza Museum is a really great place. It is of a much higher standard than any other museum of recent history that I have visited in Eastern Europe. It is located in a former interrogation centre and documents the history of Hungary opressed by Fascist and Communist regimes. There are quite a lot of displays in English and entrance is free on Saturdays.

The Statue Park is really interesting if you can hack the 3,000 price tag. This is where you'll find all the comunist statues and monuments that have been ripped out of the centre of town. It's a bus ride out to the edge of town...

Buda Castle has some incredible views over the city and you have to take a funicluar to get to it. At the top are a series of beautiful buildings though I don't think anything survives of the medieval castle though and is mostly baroque. The Hungarian national gallery is up there too and has some great Hungarian art and the national museum is worth a look in too.

One of the most interesting museums in all of Budapest is, without a doubt, the House of Terror. It is dedicated to the various regimes that have oppressed Hungary over the course of its history, including the Communists and the Nazis. It is important to rent an audio guide in your own language, because a lot of the museum is in Hungarian.
