Aquincum and Museum

posted by bdean on 8 September 2011 at 10:53

We did a day trip to see both the Roman site and the Museum where all the artefacts are kept and it was a fascinating and fun day out. Would definitely recommend!

Royal Wine House and Wine Cellar Museum

posted by ynewton on 4 January 2011 at 17:23

This cellar is a must see not just because Hungary is a wine country and it would be a sin not to taste some delicious local wine, but because it is the most extensive cellar system of Budapest with underground exhibitions and professional sommeliers serving the wine – a real treat!

Matthias Church

A stunning church with a colourful history. It is worth visiting and taking a free tour around to look at the delicate artwork and architecture on the inside, not to mention the detail in the stained glass.

Terror Haza Museum

posted by drifler on 9 November 2010 at 11:56

The Terror Haza Museum is a really great place. It is of a much higher standard than any other museum of recent history that I have visited in Eastern Europe. It is located in a former interrogation centre and documents the history of Hungary opressed by Fascist and Communist regimes. There are quite a lot of displays in English and entrance is free on Saturdays.

Buda Castle

posted by hwilkerson on 16 August 2010 at 13:35

Buda Castle has some incredible views over the city and you have to take a funicluar to get to it. At the top are a series of beautiful buildings though I don't think anything survives of the medieval castle though and is mostly baroque. The Hungarian national gallery is up there too and has some great Hungarian art and the national museum is worth a look in too.
