San Telmo

This is a lovely little bario with a very traditional architecture style and a bit of a bohemian vibe. If you go on Sundays you'll enjoy the busy market on Feria de San Telmo. You can also see tango displays at the Plaza Dorrego.

La Boca

posted by cpritchard on 11 August 2010 at 14:26

La Boca is a very pretty little neighbourhood. the houses are largely constructed out of corrugated metal and are painted in bright colours. Ocassionally you see life size models of people on the balconies. There are often reports though of muggings in the area- specifically targetting tourists so try to stick to the main routes.

Plaza de Mayo

posted by vschuth on 11 August 2010 at 12:47

The Plaza de Mayo has a great historical significance as it has long been the centre of government. The Casa Rosada where Evita made her famous speech carries a certain glamour. But the regular presence of the 'Madres' who still protest the disappearance of thousands under the Junta are a stark reminder of the city's convoluted past.

Recoleta

posted by klevett on 11 August 2010 at 12:39

The Recoleta city of the dead is an amazing sight. It accommodates nearly 7,000 graves and feels more like a small town than a grave yard. Its worth trying to get a view of the city of the dead from above and there are some hotels in the area which will let you do this. There are also a few galleries, museums and cultural centres around the city of the dead which are interesting and informative.

Learn Spanish in Argentina

posted by JoJoJo on 18 March 2008 at 03:02

I spent my first week of a 3 month South American journey learning Spanish in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It's a great way to immerse you in the culture and history of such an amazing country. You've got lots of flexibility when it comes to classes and the tuition is top quality. I highly recommend it.

I found it difficult to find initially when researching online until I came across www.GoLearnTo.com and the best thing was I only needed to pay a deposit to secure my place on the course. Is studied in the heart of Buenos Aires but you could also take co
