The Plaza de Mayo has a great historical significance as it has long been the centre of government. The Casa Rosada where Evita made her famous speech carries a certain glamour. But the regular presence of the 'Madres' who still protest the disappearance of thousands under the Junta are a stark reminder of the city's convoluted past.

The Recoleta city of the dead is an amazing sight. It accommodates nearly 7,000 graves and feels more like a small town than a grave yard. Its worth trying to get a view of the city of the dead from above and there are some hotels in the area which will let you do this. There are also a few galleries, museums and cultural centres around the city of the dead which are interesting and informative.
