Amaliehaven

posted by nhawker on 11 August 2010 at 15:58

This is a beautiful- if fairly modern - graden in the heart of Copenhagen. It is a great spot to head to to get away from the noise for a bit and is full of fountains, sculptures and has some well maintained flower beds. There is also a fine view of the opera house and palace from here.

Radhuspladsen

posted by xweldy on 11 August 2010 at 15:53

The Radhuspladsen is the town hall square and is the traditional heart of the town. There are several sizable buildings in the square, the palace hotel amongst them and there are quite a few sculptures. The most overwhelming thing about the square though, is the town hall itself which is an enormous building and is architecturally very distinctive- being somewhere between Italian renaissance and gothic. The square is lit up at night with a few neon lights which are very attractive.

Nyhavn

posted by lllora on 11 August 2010 at 15:45

Nyhavn (new port) is a canal area that was built to connect the centre of town with the sea in the 17th century. It is really picturesque with traditional houses painted in a range of colours. There are lots and lots of bars and restaurants here and it is very touristy. Don't let this deter you though, it is still utterly charming.

Tivoli

Tivoli is the second oldest amusement park in the world and has lost none of its charm and fun. There are musicians, rides, restaurants, some beautiful gardens and you can hire rowing boats to go on the lake in. There's really something for everyone here and an absolute must see in Copenhagen.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

posted by bredo on 4 January 2007 at 11:45

You must check out this fantastic museum of modern art - with works by Bacon, Giacometti, Picasso and Warhol set in this crazy plantation style house. Wander round the garden, it has spectacular views across the Swedish sound and hidden art treasures like Henry Moore + a giant hill to roll down - the kids love it!
