Perhaps the most unique museum in all of Greece is Corfu’s Museum of Banknotes. In addition to the impressive architecture of the building, there is an example of almost every Greek banknote issued in Greece from 1831 to the present day. There are also very interesting exhibits on the process of printing money, as well as how to make the special paper, and hold old banknotes are destroyed. If you have the time it is worth the trip to go and see.

When I visited Corfu, one of the museums that really stood out in my mind was the Byzantine Museum, located at the Panagia Antivouniotissa Church. I have always been fascinated with the Byzantine period, and at this museum there are many wonder religious artifacts done in that style, the beauty of it makes it worth the trip.

One of the most interesting museums in all of Corfu, and definitely worth a visit, is the Municipal Gallery. One of the premier art museums on the island, the Municipal Gallery, while small has a great deal to offer in that it primarily contains Greek artists, allowing visitors to not only experience fine art, but also get an insight into Greek culture.

This museum puts on display the numerous types of currency that Greece has used from 1822 to the present which is about 2000 items. Not only can you see the past types of currency here, but you also get to see how they are made and watermarked. Since this museum is free to attend, I would suggest checking it out and seeing for yourself the history of Greece through currency.
