Set in Al Fahidi Fort this is a fascinating place! There are dioramas of daily life in Dubai before oil was struck and there is such an astonishing difference! Totally interesting.

Naif Fort was the first headquarter of Dubai Police. It was built in a strategic location in the main commercial district in Deira, Dubai. It was also used as Prison. It acted as the public office of the public prosecution & the civil courts. The Fort is built by a special clay material called Al Madar, which is famous for its cohesive qualities. The first part built of the tower was its towers, called as Al Makbad, it was partly used as a jail for criminals. Sheikh Rashid ordered the construction of the fort in 1939. The fort was used as a accommodation place of the chief of Dubai Police. The historic gun is kept in the courtyard of the fort. The fort was the first training center for the Police Personnel, with first batch starting in 1956.

To get a taste of the history and culture of Dubai, a visit to the Dubai Museum is in order. Located in the restored Al Fahidi Fort, this building, erected in 1787, is said to be the oldest structure in Dubai. The museum was established to present life in modern day Dubai as well as a variety of local antiquities and artifacts from nearby African and Asian countries. Although small by comparison to most European and American museums, the Dubai Museum, it is an important component in the understanding of the development of Dubai, especially before the advent of oil. It is definitely worth a visit.
