Fascinating place set in the old fort, you can really see how fast the Emirate has developed from a small souk-based economy to the huge glittering city it is today.

Set in Al Fahidi Fort this is a fascinating place! There are dioramas of daily life in Dubai before oil was struck and there is such an astonishing difference! Totally interesting.

Al Ahmadiya School

We took the children along to here expecting a museum about schools and whilst they were reasonably entertained we relly loved looking at the architecture of this really old school. The carving and panels adorning the simple building are quite lovely and to me shout typical middle eastern archirtecture from the time before Dubai just wanted to outdo other rich neighbours.

My wife and I went hee to learn more about the history of Dubai and it was great. Some really interesting artefacts and a really lovely building, and so nice to know a bit more about the place than just seeing all the gold and bling of the modern tourist-focused experience.

Dubai Municipality Museum

posted by Rahmat on 7 August 2009 at 17:30

The Dubai Municipality Museum’s construction was started in late 50’s. Till 1964 it was the headquarters of Dubai Municipality. Later the Municipality office was moved to another building. As the building was having importance in the Municipality history as well as its location amidst the commercial market near the bay (Dubai Creek) it was turned into Museum in 2006. It opened up its halls & exihibits the documents which tells the history of the period during which the Municipality was established. The Museum remains closed on every Friday.
