I went to Dubai on a mission to get a couple of Persian rugs at excellent prices and I was definitely successful. The Blue Souk and The Tabriz Carpet Exhibit in particular were really wonderful, plenty of lovely things to choose from and after a bit of bartering finally a deal too. Shipping wasn't cheap but still, now they are home it's a great reminder of my holiday as well as a perfect centrepiece.

The Blue Souk is in Sharjah, just north of Dubai, you'll need a ride or a car

Probably the most surreal but lovely souk i've been to. It does have all the aspects of a normal souk, and more that's for sure it just feels a little strange. I loved arriving by water taxi and the little palza they'd worked in but i think it's just a bit to clean and cool to be like the real thing!

Wafi Mall was a real find! An egyptian theme gives a really cool feel and it even has Cleopatra's spa for your tired body. Lots of quirky boutiques that stock designer clothes and a big bonus of an underground souk. I bought some awesome jewellery that is the envy of my friends.

On 10th street, just off Oud Metha road, just short walk or bus ride from the floating bridge over the creek
