Maid of the Forth

posted by cfulton on 2 February 2011 at 10:33

A really interesting and informative ferry trip with beautiful views across Edinburgh and beyond, as well as a lot of wildlife you don't see elsewhere.

Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World

posted by claurenzi on 2 February 2011 at 10:32

A great place to take your children, particularly boys i'd say although my girls are quite fond of bugs! The huge indoor rainforest is amazing, the best butterfly jungle i think i've been to. You can have a change to handle some of the creatures too but I wasn't brave enought for the tarantula!

The Meadows

posted by Mman on 19 January 2011 at 17:56

By Winter this is the most forbidding part of Edinburgh, a vast desolate strip of land with a few paths crossing it. In the summer it can be heavenly, the cherry blossom comes out and the grass is covered with people playing frisbee, having barbeques or playing guitars and drums.

Rusty Zip

posted by Mman on 19 January 2011 at 17:53

Along with Armstrongs, rusty Zip flies the vintage flag in Edinburgh as well as clothing half its student population. Eclectic is the order of the day with hipster, smart and fancy dress receiving a fairly equal waiting. You'll have to rummage hard but there are some real bargains here if you can find them.

Forest Cafe

posted by dGyn on 19 January 2011 at 17:48

GCHQ of Edinburgh's hippy community, Forest cafe is a great place to pop in for lunch, a coffee or a slice of cake. They only serve vegetarean food, all on non matching crockery. This is part of the charm of the place really and it's nice to see that their are people there til late at night chatting and hanging out.
