Not sure if this will neccessarily be a highlight of anyone's visit to Edinburgh but the Houses of Parliament are worth seeing if only for the epic bizarreness of the whole scheme. it looks a bit like the details were all made and then fired at random at the surface of the building. especially bizarre are the sticks of bamboo stuck over the windows... It looks a bit like a jungle prison

In the winter, it takes some pluck to brave the winds and venture up Calton Hill. In the summer though, it makes for some incredible views over the New town and out to the firth of Forth. The most striking structure on the hill is the unfinished reconstruction of the Parthenon comemorating Edinburgh's 'Athens of the north' status. There's also a monument to Nelson designed like an upended telescope and an old observatory.
