One of the oldest parts of the city of Edinburgh dating back to the 12th century and still houses a pub from the 18th century. A pretty village to visit if you are in Edinburgh for a few days.

My mum and I went to this 'village' and loved it, so picturesque and peaceful you'd never know you were 15 mins from Edinburgh! On the way back we stopped in at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, having seen the beautiful water feature on TV and wanting to get a closer look.

Last time we went to Edinburgh we took a day trip to Roslin and enjoyed looking round the now-famous Rosslyn Chapel, which is beautiful (was in the da vanci code) and then ha da walk in the roslin glen and saw the ruined castle, a great day out.

So near, yet it feels so far from Edinburgh's city centre. My partner and I came here to explore the quaint church and graveyard and to enjoy a walk by the loch. To add to all this wholesome enjoyment we also sampled a bit of the local hard stuff at the famous Sheep Heid Inn.

this lovely village is hidden just the other side of hollyrood park, we got a taxi from our b&b and walked back
