Arco da Vila

To enter the picturesque historical centre of Faro you have to pass through the Arco da Vila - an ornate, arched gateway. A the top of the arch lies a statue of St Thomas Aquinus, Faro's patron saint. The arch has been influenced by both Roman and Moorish style is inhabited by storks which you can see nesting in the rafters.
