You have to take a trip here when you go to Faro. Beautiful lagoon and I can't imagine what it's like in the Autumn when the birds all come to migrate!

I knew the Algarve was famed for beaches but I was unbelievably pleased to find such an amazing beach right on our doorstep. It was lovely to have to lagoon there too as it's much better for the kids than the sea.

This lovely beach is situated on one of three islands off the coast of Portugal that stretch east along the coast to the Spanish border. It is sandy, peaceful and makes the perfect destination for a quiet day trip away from the city. You reach the island by ferry from a small market town called Olhao.
