The Uffizi is one of the most incredible galleries anywhere in the world. It was built by Vasari for the Medici family and apparently was, in its day, a place for artists such as Michelangelo and Da Vinci to congregate. The collection includes Cimabue, Giotto, Michelangello, Raphael, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Caravagio, Tintoretto.

The Ponte Vecchio is a charming higgledy piggledy bridge cramped with buildings. Its a great spot to head to in the evenings when the young of Florence come to chill out and enjoy an ice cream. There are of course the usual hustlers, souveneir vendors and street 'artists' who can be ignored with some effort.

When I told people I was visiting Florence, everyone said I simply had to visit the Duomo and the Bell Tower situated next to it. On arrival in Florence I wasn't sure if I would find it but it really is imposible to miss! The beautiful, distinctive white, green and pink facade add to the splendour. We decided to walk up to the top of the Bell Tower - a total of 414 steps but with the most magnificent views of Florence from the top.

Simply the most important building in the world! This is where the renaissance, and by extension modern civilization, started. Its enormous and incredibly beautiful.

A beautiful 14th Century church, cannot be missed if you go to Florence. I think as well as being architecturally stunning it has some of Florence's most amazing works of art including Massachio and Brunelleschi. Look for the Henry Moore bronze in the adjoining gardens as you leave. (seemed a strange place to find one)
