About 10 miles outside of Fort Lauderdale is the Flamingo Gardens Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary. This nature reserve lies on 50 acres of land and has wonderful opportunities for you to see wildlife in the wild. They have a great butterfly garden that when I was there was teaming with butterflies. I took the advice of another persons travel tip and at a little before sunset when you leave the park, head over to Long Key Nature Center. There is a large tree in the middle of a pond. Ibis show up at this tree at night to roost. It is an unbelievable sight to see, hundreds of Ibis on a tree. It does not look real there are so many of them.
