My mates and I went to Fuerte for a week of sunbathing and partying but a couple of us decided to head inland and see what we could see....and La Olivia awaited. The Governor's Townhouse, the lovely little church and the art centre with all the bits of local artwork, so quaint and lovely. And what a change from the resort!!

The 'House of the Colonels' is a fantastic 300 year-old farmhouse in the delightful village of La Olivia. In fact, the whole of La Olivis is just lovely and certainly worth a half-day away from working on your tan!

A delightful village and a must for anyone who wants to experience what the real fuerteventura is all about. The restored Govenor's house is lovely, and the church is sooo pretty, the frescoes are amazing! Totally unexpected! Don't forget to sample some local food and pop into the art centre offering work from local artists.

Aw such a cute village. There are ladies who make lace, a windmill, canarian wrestling (shh don't mention the huge football stadium somewhat wrecking this image) and local snacks. I'd highly recommend a trip here for a bit of pure old fuerteventura before the tourists came in their millions.

Lajares is southwest of Corralejo, we drove but there are tours that stop there.

This is the former capital of the island and makes for a really interesting day trip with the archaeological museum documenting the past settlers and the cathedral and sacred art museum offer a more cultural tour of the past.

FV 30 to the centre of the island, you'll probably have to drive there.
