The Lahore museum has a very in depth and detailed collection and its worth giving setting aside at least half a day to really do it justice. It details the history of the subcontinent from the bronze age to the present and has fine examples of mughal and colonial paintings. Probably the most fascinating exhibit is the statue of the fasting Buddha which is incredibly detailed and life like.

The Lahore Fort is truly enormous and an absolute must-see if you're in Lahore. It is thought to date back to the 10th century although the current structures are largely attributed to the Mughal emperor Akbar from 1566. The grounds house palaces, gardens, fountains and baths.

The Badshahi Masjid has to be the iconic sight of Lahore. It was built in 1673 by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and for a while was the biggest mosque in the world. Its still an incredible sight and accomodates 50,00 worshippers. Worth a look whilst you're there is the tomb of Hazrat Allama Muhammad Iqbal who was a great Pakistani philosopher and scholar.

The Shalimar Garden has certainly seen better days and is a bit ragged around the edges. Nonetheless its an incredible sight and testament to the awesome engineering know how of the Mughals . It's composed of three terraces which are irrigated by a canal. There are apparently 140 fountains in the gardens.
