We were taking a little driving tour for a couple of days and came across this delightfully pretty black beach. It's not far from the capital which is ideal for a day trip.

Puerto del Carmen

I had no idea that the diving was so good off the coast of Lanzarote! I'm a qualified diver so just hired the equipment to get in the water and was amazed at the fish and the sea floor. Great!

Eco Tour Farmara (Local Charms)

posted by mbrice on 19 January 2011 at 11:56

Although i'm not a fan of tours it seemed the best way to see a little more of the island without the hassle of hiring a car. We chose an eco tour from the village of Famara where I was blown away by the beauty of the beach and the delicious tapas (although the health products they sold weren't that great), then onto the Cesar Manrique Foundation and finally a drive into the wine region for some tasting. Great day out.

We got picked up from our hotel, although others on the tour had had to make their own way there.

Playa Quemada

What an unusual beach, the sand is black because of the volcanoes and this seemed to have scared everyone off, at least when we went, there was one other family there. Gorgeous water, lovely quiet place to go for the day, watch out for the heat of the sand.

Papagayo Beach

Papagayo beach is the best of all in lanzarote! we went here nearly every day despite lack of shops/food outlets nearby and the charge to drive there it doesn't matter when you're sunbathing and the beach is totally gorgous and i've never seen clearer sea.

on the playa blanco on the south coast of the island
