Cuevas de los Verdes

Totally facinating. These caves used to be used as a hideout for inhabitants and I can only imagine how scary they were since even brightly lit today it gets a bit eerie in places! Really beautiful, but not for the claustrophobic!

On the north of the island, past Arrieta, part of the same lava flow as jameos del agua

Jameos Del Agua

It's a cave open at both ends formed by a bubble in a lava flow. You walk down into it to find a pool in the bottom the inhabitants of which are albino crabs found only here in the entire world! As you exit you're confronted by a swimming pool that looks like an oasis in the desert, only the king is allowed to swim in it!
