I'm normally averse to seeing non-cultural sights when I go on holiday, but this was so roundly recommended I had to make an exception, and I'm sure glad I did. What they have done is almost genius, it's fantastic.

At over 100 years old I really love the history at this aquarium. So many great species to see, the invertebrates from the local waters were interesting too! I like visiting aquariums when I go on holiday for a chance to see the local additions to the tropical species.

This is a really interesting place, totally different from a normal aquarium. There are some live animals, notably some seals, but the main point is the collection and preservation of sea life and sea plants, sort of like natural history for the sea. Lots of the exhibits date back to Carlos I and the museum's opening in 1898.

Quite simply the best aquarium i've ever been to. The tank is HUGE and I loved the way that the different ecosystems were created with invisible boundaries so it looked like the peanguins were free to swim with the tropical fish when they weren't! Fastastic design and great range of fish, really innovative.
