As a compromise with the kids, we went to LA but pomised them a day at Legoland, which we were largely dreading. Actually it was quite fun, the kids enjoyed it so much. We got wet, be got a bit scared and we escaped the pirates!

I have never been to the famous London location of Madame Tussauds but was taken to the newly opened one in Los Angeles. Based in Hollywood it is home to some fantastic statues of all your favourite Hollywood heroes.

A main reason to stay here is that it gets you access to the Magic Castle which is apparently invite only otherwise. There are some great magic shows in the castle, with an olde world feel. The whole place is a bit snooty with a strict dress code and no photography policy but don't let this bother you.Staff in the hotel are friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

This 1,000 capacity music venue is situated in the Koreatown in a really beautiful art deco building adjoining the Pellisier building. It's a great place to catch a gig and has hosted the likes of the Rolling Stones, Bowie and Sting in the past. Be sure to check it out.
