Insider tip: free on Wednesdays so get there early! Great art collection, and the rooms are so stunning, particularly the throne room. Gardens are great too and you can get into these for free any time.

Almudena Cathedral

I love the interior of this cathedral, so normal and cathedrally from the outside, then the inside has chapels in a whole heap of artistic stlyes. The outside is so bland to match the Teatro Real opposite so I guess i'll forgive it.

Palacio Real

Wow. This is one grand building. As soon as you see it you can't help but be amazed by the size of it, and then when you tour the rooms the luxury is so apparent it really makes you think wow these people are rich. Amazing to see how the other half live, i think i enjoyed it even more than the napoleonic apartments at the louvre!

OH my waht a fun night. My husband surrised me with this for my birthday. The place is sumpuous and the dancing was amazing, i had such a lovely time. Oh and there were drinks and food but I could barely contain my excitment about the dancing!!

This tapa and ale bar is near the Gran Villa, a very upscale shopping street in Madrid, and serves generous portions for a small price. It is in a rural setting and a good break from the glitz. You can find it at map coordinates latitude:40.4204826355 and longitude: -3.6989569664 if you have a GPS unit. The Madrid Sevillo as well as the Gran Via Metro stations are also about 1/10th of a mile from the restaurant.
