My mother and I loved it here enjoying a quiet walk and a bit to eat away from the traffic and heat of the city. The rose garden was sublime too, i thought the UK had the perfect rose growing climate but they don't seem to mind being in Madrid, much like me!

The Sabatini Gardens are located on the northern side of the palace and command great views of the fascade. This is a good spot to cool off and chill out and wander the mazes. There are also some pretty statues here as well as a tranquil little pond.

The Parque del Gran Retiro, commonly known simply as "El Retiro," is a beautiful park in the center of Madrid. The park is 1.4 km (350 acres) large and has a variety of architectural delights, such as the Crystal Palace and a monument to King Alfonso XII. In addition, you can meander through lovely gardens or rent a boat to row on the lake. El Retiro is near the Prado Museum and has stands to buy food and beverages. I loved visiting the park after a a few hours of sightseeing or shopping in order to cool off and relax. There are various shady pathways to walk along or you can sit on one on the many benches to enjoy the view.
