Daniel Liebskind's Imperial War Museum is a powerful place and really evokes the sense of a globe torn apart by conflict. Worth visiting for the building alone.

A bit of a megaplex, but the Lowry is definitely worth navigating to have a look at the great man's paintings. Its a strange aesthetic but really bears witness to the grim standards of living in the industrial north.

Urbis is a great gallery of exhibits that give you a glimpse into the Modern history and art aspect of the area. They have several floors of exhibits and they get new ones all the time. It is fresh and exciting. It is more for adults and teens than young kids. They have a restaurant so you can take a break, get refreshed and get back to it!
