This walk takes you around the bay and through the lovely suburbs. We spent the whole day doing it stopping to rest on the beach and eat at the seafront restaurants. Mmmmmm, lovely.

I went to Melbourne to visit family over the holidays and I must say I was surprised at the near proximity of the beaches to the city!! Just a short ride away. The cutest one we went to was Brighton Beach, where they have those old-fashioned changing rooms/bathing boxes that the victorians used to use dotted about!

I couldn't go to Melbourne and not visit Bells Beach, since I grew up with posters of surfers there on my walls. Shame the surf was flat the day I got to go, but a lovely beach all the same, maybe one day when i'm rich i'll go back when it's the RipCurl competition there.

At just over 100km away it's a bit of a trip but who can say no to a day at the beach?

St Kilda Beach is a great spot to head to if you feel like getting out of the city for a bit St Kilda is your best bet. It's got a wonderfully laid back atmosphere as well as some lovely old buildings. The Palais Theatre and the retro theme park 'Lunar Park' are highlights on this front. There are also some great restaurants and little cake shops. The pier has a great view back over the city.

Boasting a menu of over 100 different types of ice-cream (including a black liqourice flavour), all made of site, The Ice-Cream Shoppe is a must if visiting Melbourne in summer. Do be warned though, since Williamstown Beach is such a popular destination, you can wait up to an hour for ice-cream with crowds of tourists and locals alike filling the spacious store and spilling out onto the street. (The rum 'n' raisin is one of their best flavours, and is made with real rum).
