Stunning place, and one that I think encompasses the spirit of India with the hindu caves and the buddhist caves almost side by side. The ferry trip to get there is pretty cool too.

Not in Mumbai but a good distance out of the city are these quite spectacular caves. They are now a World Heritage Site and date back to the 2nd century BC. The most amazing thing to remember is that the caves where carved by hand with a chisel.

Amazing caves with hindu and bhuddist artwork. We took a trip out to this island and were astonished at what had been created out of the basalt rocks and caves, really lovely place to visit.

The last time I wanted to go to Mumbai, I decided to leave the hustle and bustle of the city, and see some of the country side, which is why I am glad that I went to the Kanheri Caves. Dating back over two thousand years, the inscriptions in this cave temple are quite humbling.
