Lorenzillos Lobster House

posted by SuzyQ on 28 July 2009 at 06:10

This is a great restaurant on the water which has a fantastic menu at very affordable prices. Lorenzillo's has been operating as a business since 1683, so there is a lot of history here. They specialize in lobster, and it is a real bargain. The restaurant is elegant, but not at all overpriced. They cater to tourists and welcome children, even giving them specialty non-alcoholic drinks to make them feel grown up. I was impressed with the service and we were offered samples of dishes so we could make our decision. The service was first rate and so was the food. I would definitely recommend this place for a fine meal.

Ellis Island

posted by SuzyQ on 28 July 2009 at 05:57

Visiting Ellis Island is a humbling experience, as this is a museum which recreates the exact portal through which most immigrants came to the United States in the late 1800s to mid-1900s. Ellis Island has been beautifully restored and provides moving exhibits about the journey that Europeans took to enter the United States and make their way in the new land. This is a somber museum that provides thoughtful discussion to anyone who has ancestors who came to the United States through this awe-inspiring building. A highly recommended visit, which also provides great views of New York City, so you get more bang for your buck.

Emeril's Orlando

posted by SuzyQ on 28 July 2009 at 05:43

Emeril Lagasse is one of the world's premier chefs, and this is one of his flagship restaurants. If you are a fan of good food and enjoy tasting the creations of a forward-thinking and down-to-earth culinary expert, then Emeril' Orlando is the place for you to go. It has excellent food that truly represent's Emeril's diverse and southern background. It is very close to the attractions like Universal Studios, so you don't have to go far if you're in the area sightseeing. The food is not cheap, but it is definitely worth what you pay for. It is delicious and you can say that you've tasted Emeril's classy New Orleans style fare.

Page Museum and La Brea Tar Pits

posted by SuzyQ on 28 July 2009 at 05:35

This is the coolest museum, especially for kids, since it is right in the middle of downtown Los Angeles and shows how the area was 10,000 to 40,000 years ago, during the last ice age. On this site are real fossils of extinct creatures that roamed the Los Angeles basin. It is a very interesting place, since you can't really imagine the dinosaur-type creatures roaming around. The Museum has life-size replicas of many of these animals. The museum is constantly finding new fossils and bones and has done carbon-14 dating to authenticate the age of many of these relics. This is highly recommended and very interesting.

The Amber Regent

posted by SuzyQ on 13 July 2009 at 20:41

If you like Chinese food and want to see how it melds with Scottish cuisine, then a trip to the Amber Regent is in order. They specialize in seafood, especially sea bass, halibut, lobster and crayfish dishes, as well as fresh, seasonal Scottish produce. Their style of Chinese cooking is Szechuan and Mandarin, but there is always a connection to the Scottish food culture. This is a popular restaurant. They do take reservations, but you might want to try and show up between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., when they offer nightly specials at discount prices. It is family friendly, even though it appears to be haute cuisine. Thoroughly enjoyable!
