Wow, I never knew there was a real Egyptian Temple in Madrid!! Shipped over in pieces when it was removed from Egypt to escape the Aswan High Dam flooding, it now occupies a stunning spot boasting views of the gardens towards the Palacio Real.

What a journey! It's the world's most horizontal cable car and you're never very far from the ground, so the views of the parkland and over Madrid are good but not spectacular, but getting out and up is wonderful.

This is a busy area with plenty of bars, great for staying in. We were just around the corner and we went out most nights, with our best memories from places on or near the square. A must for party-animals!

The highlight for me on my holiday in Madrid was the food! We never ate a bad meal and tried all sorts from local dishes and delicacies to moroccan and moorish inspired things too. If you're a foodie then then is a great place to go for a real mix of culture and tastings!

No longer a bloody battle scene, today the gate is the best way to enter the city, not its most heavily fortified!!
