I feel very honoured as I was lucky enough to be in Tokyo when the inner grounds were open to the public, my cousin lives there and had arranged for us to go. Fabulous sense of history. The gardens, both inside and out are gorgeous too. Definitely worth a visit however much you can see.

Not somewhere i'd advocate visiting alone, but going to the townships really opened my eyes to the real heart and culture of cape town. If you can find a guide to take you or there's a big group the humour, the crafts and the beauty of the area will blow you away.

My wife and I are big fans of SA wine so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit the vineyard region, so we hired a car and headed off. We stopped when we wanted and took short strolls, and felt in the middle of nowhere, until we came across a tasty lunch menu. In the afternoon we explored some more, bought some wine and went back to the hotel to enjoy it. Perfection.

out to the southwest, we just asked the hotel staff where to head and made it up from there

Whilst we did do a little sightseeing i'm a firm believer that if you're on holiday then you should spend plenty of time on the beach. Less trendy than the atlantic coast, the indian ocean is warm, stunning and inviting and we spent many happy days on the beach here, sticking to the end where the buses come in and the next bay round, Fish Hoek Beach.

south of the city, you can get there easily on public transport but a car is easier

You can't go to Cape Town and not go up the mountain, especially when the cable car makes things so easy! I think it might be the best place i've ever been, the views are just amazing! I even sent myself a postcard from the top so that I could arrive home to a table-mountian-postmarked postcard!

Cable car from Tafelberg Road, about 15 mins from the city centre by car, it's well signposted too.
