Leela Kempinski Hotel

This is a fabulous hotel and the service is nothing short of opulent! The breakfast buffet is absolutely vast and the staff are fantastically friendly. The whole place has been quite recently refurbished and the rooms really show their youth! The clubs downstairs are pretty fun too.

Taj Mahal Palace Hotel

posted by yfischer on 11 January 2011 at 11:03

We heard that in response to the colonial policy of 'no dogs, no Indians' in force in Mumbai's best Hotel at the time, a disgruntled native decided to found the Taj Mahal Hotel to be the best in Mumbai and with an ethnically inclusive policy. He certainly succeeded. The Taj Mahal Palace is fantastically beautiful, displaying all the hallmarks of 19th century Indian architecture. If you possibly can stay on the seaview side. Views of the Arabian Sea are fabulous.

Crown Plaza Auckland Hotel

posted by jullman on 11 January 2011 at 10:53

This is a really good hotel, though there's something a little oficious and business feeling about the place. That said, the concierge was vey warm and welcoming and had plenty of recommendations for us for things to see and places to eat. There's wifi in every room, newspapers delivered in the mornings and sky tv.

Langham Hotel

This lovely hotel is just near the start of K Road and a short hop to Queen Street. It's also fairly easy to get to Newmarket on a bus that leaves from nearby. The rooms are a little on the small side but more than make up for this fact by being exquisitely decorated. The staff are super friendly.

Mt Eden

posted by bwilson on 11 January 2011 at 10:41

If you get on the Explore Bus from Downtown Auckland, it's only a short hop to Mount Eden which is just outside the city centre and has some fantastic views of the skyline. We saw the view at dusk as the city lights began to emerge from the gloom. A really magical experience!
