Simonov Monastery

posted by vlacon on 30 December 2010 at 10:29

My husband and I had a peaceful time here, it's one of my outstanding memories from our holiday in Moscow, such a shame that the soviets destroyed so much of it. Lovely buildings and you can tell from the bit of the wall left it must have been an amazingly impressive place once upon a time.

Patriarch's Ponds

posted by gchristopher on 30 December 2010 at 10:28

I loved this pretty park not just because of the pond and the pathways but also because I first heard about it in 'The Master and Margarita' and wanted to go there ever since. There is even a statue of Bulgakov, who lived in the area and wrote books in secret.

Stalin's Seven Sisters

posted by hfuller on 30 December 2010 at 10:28

As a fan of the ridiculous, I really loved spotting these (seven) super-grandiose 'wedding'cake' style buildings around the city, a legacy to Stalin's pomp and ambition. The buildings are all really tall and in the same style but range in uses, you can even stay in a couple of them as they are hotels.

all over the city, check out the internet before you go to get the style and then you'll be good to go!

Nice to find a home from home. Wagamama is one of my favourite restaurants and it was here in Dubai - such a great find.
