I really enjoyed my trip here to the capital city of Roman Crete. The Temple of Pythia Apollo is a highlight, as is the Odeon. The sheer number of ancient sites on the island can be off-putting but this one is small enough to see in an hour ot so and is a great excuse to go to the less touristy south of the island.

It seems like the waterfalls round here are the only way that the water reaches the med, but i'm not complaining they are so beautiful. My favourite is the one at Manavgat beacuse of the huge pool and gorgeous colours of the water. We took a picnic, swimwear and spent the day there.

The archaeological wonders in this area never cease, I try to visit a couple each holiday in Antalya and I never seem to mind giving up a day at the beach for them. This time I went to the ancient port of Phaselis, an amazing place. Three harbours, a main street, and loads of other gems besides. A real find!

In the shadows of the yvli minare stands this mosque which is well worth seeing too, with its fabulous decorations, particularly the inscriptions above the door. Don't miss this!

In the centre of town, look out for the grooved minaret (yvli minare)

Last time we visited Antalya we went to Perge, which was good, but this time we wanted more, so we went to see the theatre at Aspendos, the best preserved roman theatre in the world. It's absolutley stunning, and unbelievably huge, it holds 20000 people and still hosts concerts today. Definitely worth the extra distance from antalya.
where, when, how, web
About 50km outside the city, mostly on the D400 main road so the drive is pretty reasonable.
