Torre Agbar

posted by qthorley on 3 December 2010 at 10:30

For some reason I don't associate Barcelona with really modern architecture, but the Torre Agbar has forced me to change my mind! This building is absolutely beautiful, with two external layes, one to provide the blue-green-grey colour and the other to add sparkle! It's worth going to see in the night too when it's lit up with a multitude of colours

Opera Garnier

Also known as the Palais Opera, it was such a privilege to go and see a ballet here, although also slightly terrifying as the underground lake and someone being killed by a chandelier were inspiration for the phantom of the opera. I can't describe how lovely the building is, let's just say it's regarded as one of the masterpieces of the neo-baroque style.

Palace of Verailles

posted by mkepplinger on 3 December 2010 at 10:12

Definitely worth heading out of Paris for, this is astonishingly sumptuous and ornate. I can't imagine ever being able to live in even one of the rooms! The Hall of mirrors is just stunning, although I can't pick a favourite bit!

Centre Pompidou

posted by vholts on 3 December 2010 at 10:11

I love this place, and each time I go back to it I love it a little more. From the first glimpse of the crazy exterior I know it's going to be exciting. This time there was an awesome Gabriel Orozco exhibition, and his work was amazing. It's so fun not to know what you'll see, as well as knowing about all the fabulous stuff in the permanent collection, I like to spend lots of time with kandinsky.

La Defense

posted by jzaun on 3 December 2010 at 10:10

Having been to Paris a couple of times before, I'd never actually made it to the high-rise area that has always seemsd so incongruent when you catch a glimpse of it. The tall buildings are pretty impressive and I love the grande arche, i never know there were offices in the sides! what a place to work! Great view back to the Paris you know and love too!
