Murano is a small island in the Venice lagoon. It measures about 1 square mile and is famous for its glass wares which have been produced here since the 13th century. Seeing a demonstration of glass blowing is really fascinating and its strange that such an industrial process produces such delicate wares.

This was my 6th time to Gumbet and this hotel was the best I have ever stayed in. My 11 year old daughter was entertained for the whole week and really enjoyed the resort too.

Burano is about 8km outside of Venice but feels like it's a world away. It's famous for making some of the best lace in Europe and Lace making and fishing are still pretty much the sole industries on the island. It's also famous for it's brightly coloured houses. Each house is painted in a different lurid shade. A wonderful place to spend a few hours.

Madurodam is a 15 minute tram ride from the Hague train station - which is just about a half hour train ride from Amsterdam. It is the most incredible model town I've ever seen with pretty much every significant building and monument in the country recreated in 1:25 scale. A fantastic place to visit for kids and adults alike.

take the train to the Hague and then a 15 minute tram from the station.
