Koutoubia Mosque

posted by wfisher on 8 October 2010 at 15:40

I love old buildings and this is an influential one, inspiring designs of many more across europe, particularly spain. Not being muslim, i couldn't go inside but the minaret, topped with shiny metal balls is spectacular. Definitely worth going to see.

In medina, the old part of the city, travel down avenue mohammed v from the modern part to find it easily

Icmeler

posted by mdryfus on 8 October 2010 at 14:48

My friends and I stumbled upon this village when we decided to walk along the coast a bit. The walk itself was really pretty and we had a delicious lunch and a wander round before walking back. A nice (free) alternative to the organised touristy trip offerings which i've found to always be full to the point of bursting.

where, when, how, web
walk right (As you look out to sea) along the shore and keep going, sticking to the coast!

Marmaris Marina

posted by ymang on 8 October 2010 at 14:47

You're on holiday so go galm one night and live the life of the beautiful people! My husband treated me to a meal at a swanky restaurant (i forget the name, the wine must have been good...) on the sea front. looking out at all the posh yachts I felt like a total celebrity!

where, when, how, web
the marina is at the eastern end of the bay and a leisurely stroll there sure does build up an appetite

Atlantis Waterpark

posted by wberry on 8 October 2010 at 14:47

My kids and I had a blast here on our holiday. With great views out and loads of things to do we were thrilled. The rides were just perfect for them, although if you're looking for extreme adrenaline fun i'd say it might not be exciting enough.

where, when, how, web
turquoise dolmus (local bus) or just walk along long beach til you find it, although it's a big beach so that could take a while. it's best to figure out if you can see it from your normal 'spot' and work out the best way from there.

Cedrae Island and Cleopatra's Beach

posted by ylauffer on 8 October 2010 at 14:46

This beach is the most stunning beach in marmaris. We took a boat ride out here and it was gorgeous. With ruins dotted all over it's easy to imagine the place being a shish sought-after destination and that the legends about the island being a wedding gift to cleopatra might be true.

where, when, how, web
Joining a tour is the best way else you have to drive yourself north to the other coast and then get a boat, with a tour it's all organised.
