Me and my boyfriend love wandering when on holiday, soaking up the feel of the place and looking at the architecture and spotting quirky things. This square has some amaxing buildings, none more so than the super-elaborate Palacio de Communicaciones

UP the road from the Prado it's hardly a hidden secret but well worth a walk by!

The fleamarket in this area might be famous and popular with the tourists but we followed the locals and ate tapas on a "walk with beverages" aka bar crawl. Before we got too inebriated I definitely remember the best tapas ever, although I forgot the name of the best place, all the ones we tried were pretty great.

My husband and I were wandering about this lovely romantic park and wandered over to explore this interesting looking building. Turns out, it was inspired by London's Crystal Palace and inside we found a good, if a little mad, modern art expo, and entry was free, always a good recommendation in my book!

Just by the Prado, you can walk from there or the nearest subway is Retiro

We escaped the beaches for the day and on the recommendation of the concierge at out hotel drove out to the forest of Pinar de Tamadaba. We had a lovely walk and ate our lunch with one of the most spectacular views you could hope for, down the steep rocks to the sea and out to another of the canaries. I didn't want to leave!

Feeling a bit, erm, worse-for-wear, my friends and I wanted to do something, and we came across some guys offering a camel trip into the sand dunes. Now, camels aren't as comfy as you'd be led to believe but it was so much fun. It was like being in another world (with the occasional naked person, there are nudist bits but hey!) and the lizards are super cute.
