Mysore

posted by srik on 9 March 2009 at 16:16

Mysore is a little touristy, yet sleepy town, a mere 140 kms from the hotspot called Bangalore. Hire a car from Bangalore. Leave Bangalore before the crack of dawn and you can enjoy Mysore in a day and return back to your hotel. While in Mysore, do visit the Mysore palace and the little known Karanji kere (lake) while most people flock to the zoo. Shop for some original sandalwood handicrafts at the Government emporium (remember, it closes at 5pm). And on you way back, make a stop over at the Janapada Loka (about 40 km from Bangalore)

Mysore is 140km to the south-west of Bangalore. Buses leave for Mysore from Bangalore every 15 mins. You can also hire a taxi from Bangalore. You also have the option of taking a train. Journey time is typically between 2 and 3 hours.

Chapora Fort

posted by srik on 9 March 2009 at 09:59

Chapora fort is an old fort along the seashore. It is located on the Anjuna beach. It is in an idyllic setting and the sunset from here is simply awesome. The other good part about this place is the fact that it is not very crowded. The climb up the fort is neither too strenous nor too comfortable and offers a moderate climbing experience. And the views from the top are simply breathtaking. Visit this place early in the morning or late afternoon for the best enjoyment.

where, when, how, web
Take a taxi or an auto from Mapusa or Panjim to reach Chapora fort. It is 10km from Mapusa and 18kkm from Panjim.
