Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

posted by lreiss on 5 August 2010 at 16:55

The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the oldest koala sanctuary in the world. It is also one of the few that allow you to hold the animals which is a lovely experience and controlled to ensure that its fair to the animals. There are also kangaroos, echidnas, Tazmanian devils and a diverse range of birdlife. A great outing for families

Southbank Parklands

posted by pmosser on 5 August 2010 at 16:51

The South Bank Parklands are the legacy of the 1988 world expo and aren't like any city parks I've ever seen. They have areas of cultivated rainforest and swampland. There is also a vast man made beach which is a great spot to cool off- especially if you're there at the height of summer. Another nice touch is the Nepalese peace pagoda.

National Museum of Capodimonte

posted by hmays on 5 August 2010 at 16:43

If you only plan to see one museum in your time in Naples, it should definitely be this one. Its situated in a grand Bourbon Palazzo and has an exquisite collection of painting. This includes works from the Naplesschool, but most visitors will probably find the collection of Titians Carravagios and El Grecos more exciting. A highlight of my time in Naples.

Piazza Plebiscito

posted by njohnson on 5 August 2010 at 16:35

The history of the Piazza Plebiscito is slightly complex as it was initially conceived as a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte only to be finally be built to celebrate the 1870 unification of Naples into the state of Italy. All that aside it is an incredibly grand place and a congregation point for Neopolitains.

Naples Archaeological Museum

posted by dnewman on 5 August 2010 at 16:29

The Archaeological Museum in Naples is considered to be one of the best collections of Roman artifacts in the world. Most important among these are the incredible Farnese marbles which are displayed in perfect condition. There are also lots of Egyptian artefacts and relics of Pompeii.
