This area was a little village isolated from the city of Edinburgh before the new town was constructed. It still has the feeling of being an independent community. It's a really sweet little street running steeply down the hill with some nice little cafes and shops. Look out for the Barony pub too which is my favourite pub in Edinburgh and starred in the recent film - the illusionist.

Fellow nautical buffs will enjoy this experience. The Martime Museum is housed in a beautiful old shipping warehouse building on the way down to the sea. The centrepiece of the museum is the replica of the galleon of John of Austria in which he sailed into battle at Lepanto.

Montserrat means 'serrated mountain' and the name really speaks for itself. Its a fairly majestic sight and is the location of the ancient monastery of Montserrat. You can visit the monastery and see a way of life that has been lead for centuries with monks studying and teaching theology. You can also see one of the daily performances by the boys choir.

This is the place that everyone will tell you to go in Barcelona. Unfortunately, it's the place where all the other tourists in Barcelona have been told to go. Everything is overpriced and its packed with street performers, prostitutes and people trying to sell tacky souvenirs. Really over rated and not at all representative of the rest of the city.

As European city's go, Paris's buildings are relatively free from graffiti so I was surprised to stumble across this massive detective painting on Place Frehel. I was even more surprised to find that the painting was over 40 years old and by Parisian artist Jean Le Gac. It's proof that street art can really bring a place to life when well done and worth a look if you're in the area.
