Ca 'n Pedro

posted by bomara on 2 November 2010 at 12:03

Ca'n Pedro is a really great local institution in Palma. The food is simple and hearty and truly Mediterranean fare with Calamari, Olive oil and fresh tomatoes abounding. There are some great fresh fish meals as well as some nice fresh fish. A real treat!

Isla Majorca

posted by xhegarty on 2 November 2010 at 11:57

The Isla Majorca is a handy place to stop off with relatively cheap rooms, and adequate facilities as well as close proximity to the Old Town. The distance from the beach was a bit of a frustration and the building itself is quite profoundly ugly.

Hotel Almudaina

posted by mdimeling on 2 November 2010 at 11:53

The Hotel Almudaina is a really nice little place, and reasonably good value for money. The rooms are tasteful, the staff are friendly and helpful and there is a great little solarium onj the roof. The lack of swimming pool means that it's probably not a place to stay for more than a couple of nights but proximity to the centre means it is very convenient for a brief stop over.

Mandarin Oriental du Rhone

posted by fguess on 2 November 2010 at 11:33

If you're willing to pay the difference, this hotel is a real cut above the rest. It's on the banks of the Rhone and has some lovely views. There are several excellent restaurants, including a really outstanding curry restaurant. There's also a fitness centre, my one complaint would be the lack of swimming pool...

Novotel Centre

posted by helinor on 2 November 2010 at 11:27

This is a fairly pokey establishment and probably worth avoiding. The hotel itself isn't that bad, mediocre rooms, food and service but the location is really the decisive feature. Its sandwiched between a very muslim area and the red light district which is a culture clash to say the least. There are regular brawls, vomit in the streets and general seediness. Avoid.
