Hotel du Ville Concerts

posted by mwatson on 19 October 2010 at 17:03

On summer nights it's possible to catch concerts in the open air courtyard of thehotel du ville. Its a beautiful little medieval courtyard as it is and nothing could be nicer than sitting here with a glass of wine and listening to some jazz or classical music.

Russian Orthodox Church

posted by xfryer on 19 October 2010 at 16:58

I stumbled across this church one day when I was wondering around Geneva. It's a really beautiful place and quite an unusual sight in a city that feels otherwise quite slick and modern. I think it dates back to the 19th century when there was a large Orthodox community based in Geneva.

Plaka

posted by frodacker on 19 October 2010 at 14:26

Plaka is a must see when you're in Athens. There aren't any particularly noteworthy sights here but its a charmingly labyrinthine area and great to wonder at sundown when the street lights and evening bustle make it feel quite magical. Wonder around until you've worked up a sufficient appetite for the large portions served in the area's restaurants.

Plaka Restaurant

posted by kwile on 19 October 2010 at 14:21

There are lots of restaurants in the Plaka in Athens and it can be extremely difficult to choose between them when the menus and prices don't seem to vary that much from one restaurant to the next. For my money, though Plaka restaurant has it by a whisker with lovely outdoor seating and some exquisite seafood - the Calimari especially is incredible.

Vizantino

posted by vreade on 19 October 2010 at 14:14

This is the place to go if you want to party with the locals! As the evening wears on and the grappa takes effect, things can get quite raucous. The food is delicious with some excellent salads, dips and chicken dishes as well as grilled platters. The staff are really friendly and mostly speak English despite the fact that this is definitely not a tourist restaurant.
