Tavira

posted by yhahn on 19 October 2010 at 12:01

If you're staying in Faro for a while, take a day out to go and visit the quaint little town of Tavira which is located a short journey from Faro by an extremely old fashioned train. Once you arrive, climb the cobbled hill to the Moorish castle at the top which commands fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. If you walk out of town along the river, there are some really striking salt marshes.

Vila Adentro

posted by randerson on 19 October 2010 at 10:55

This is a really beautiful little old walled town and feels surprisingly un-touristy. There certainly aren't the hustlers, tourist shops and postcard vendors that you would expect from a quaint little old town. Enter through the Aro da Vila and head for the Praca Alfonso. It takes about 30 minutes to cover cross the old town but make sure you get a bit lost and also check ou the cathedral, monastery and Palacio Episcopal along the way.

The Wiltern

This 1,000 capacity music venue is situated in the Koreatown in a really beautiful art deco building adjoining the Pellisier building. It's a great place to catch a gig and has hosted the likes of the Rolling Stones, Bowie and Sting in the past. Be sure to check it out.

Bungee jumping off the Bridge to Nowhere

posted by hjackson on 19 October 2010 at 10:39

This took a great deal of anguish on my part but was absolutely incredible and the few seconds i spent in mid air were well worth the $70 I spent. This is probably because it felt like it lasted for hours. The staff are really nice and very experienced and were very understanding of my blind fear. There is also a beautiful hike to be had through the national forest.

Santa Monica

posted by cmackendoerfer on 19 October 2010 at 10:32

This is a small and charming seaside town and definitely worth staying in for a night. There is a beautiful sandy beach where you can try your hand at some watersports. I loved the old pier and amusement park which made me think of old blighty. 3rd street has some great diners and there are some nice shops and galleries on Main Street
